Purchased by a couple with a vision, this house held immense potential, but its biggest drawback was immediately apparent: a closed-off kitchen layout that hindered both flow and views. However, armed with determination and a dream, the homeowners reached out to us, Emily Pueringer Design Studio, to embark on a journey to redefine their space, turning it into a haven for family gatherings and memorable celebrations.

The kitchen, once walled in on three sides with a lower soffit on the other, underwent a dramatic metamorphosis. Walls were torn down, rooms were rearranged, and exquisite elements were meticulously incorporated to breathe new life into the heart of the home. What emerged was nothing short of spectacular – a seamless blend of functionality, elegance, and warmth.

At the forefront of this kitchen transformation are the mesmerizing marble countertops, carefully selected by our clients during a trip to California. These marble countertops not only elevate the aesthetic appeal of the space but also serve as surface for culinary endeavors and lively conversations alike.

Complementing the luxurious countertops are the stunning custom oak cabinetry, which exude timeless charm and sophistication. These custom cabinets not only provide ample storage but also serve as a focal point, seamlessly integrating with the overall design scheme to create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.

The stylish blue zellige tiles from Zia Tile serve as a nod to the lake itself, with their varying shades of blue reminiscent of the ever-changing hues of Lake Superior’s waters. Like the surface of the lake on a clear day, these handcrafted tiles shimmer and gleam, infusing the kitchen with a sense of depth and movement that echoes the ebb and flow of the nearby waves..

However, one element that truly steals the spotlight is the eye-catching terracotta Lacanche range. A masterpiece in its own right, this exquisite appliance marries form and function effortlessly, combining French craftsmanship with unparalleled performance. Its presence not only elevates the kitchen aesthetic but also inspires culinary creativity- in which the homeowner has used to make fresh pastries that we’ve sampled- yum! 

As the heart of the home, the kitchen is not only a space for culinary pursuits but also a hub for entertaining and hospitality. To further enhance its functionality and allure, we added the built-in arched dry bar, adorned with a marble backsplash and flanked by exquisite zellige tiles. 

The arched design of the dry bar lends a sense of architectural intrigue, while the marble backsplash adds a touch of luxury and sophistication. Flanked by stunning blue zellige tiles, this focal point becomes a work of art, captivating guests with its intricate details and artisanal craftsmanship. This elegant yet practical feature seamlessly integrates into the kitchen, providing a designated area for beverage service and cocktail hour festivities, and where every element is thoughtfully curated to enhance the joy of lakefront living on the shores of magnificent Lake Superior.

In our quest to maximize both functionality and charm, we didn’t overlook any detail, including the incorporation of a built-in hutch and a custom-built bench with a dining nook. The hutch, seamlessly integrated into the kitchen design, serves as a showcase for cherished dinnerware and heirloom pieces, adding a touch of nostalgia and personality to the space. With its ample storage and display shelves, the hutch not only enhances the kitchen’s organizational capabilities but also elevates its aesthetic appeal, echoing the timeless elegance of lakefront living.

Adjacent to the hutch, a custom-built dining nook beckons guests to linger a little longer over meals and conversations. Bathed in natural light from nearby windows, this cozy nook exudes warmth and intimacy, making it the perfect spot for morning coffees, leisurely brunches, and intimate dinners. Complete with a built-in bench upholstered in lovely fabric and accented with plush pillow cushions, this inviting nook offers a comfortable retreat where the beauty of Lake Superior can be savored with every bite.
